This was inspired by my regular practice of reciting the Heart Sutra and reflecting on it. Also by the book Painting Enlightenment by Paula Arai, which contains many paintings by Japanese artist Iwasaki Tsuneo. His works are all inspired by the Heart Sutra, and all contain the words of the sutra in meticulously painted characters.
I introduced this project to the Norwich Buddhist Centre sangha, and asked people to come up with responses to the Heart Sutra in any creative media they liked.
